AI has changed what a small team can do. The new biotech is lean and augmented — fewer full-time hires, more senior expertise on demand. I help founders build it, and lead the functions while they do.
A modern biotech doesn't need a department for every function — it needs the right senior judgment, augmented by AI, applied when it matters. Lean teams now do what once took dozens: competitive intelligence, medical affairs, business development, financial planning. I operate that way myself, and I bring it to the companies I work with.
Most fractional executives are one or the other. As an MD-PhD with a Wharton MBA who has run both the business and the science, I cover the gap small biotechs fall into — without three separate hires.
Small biotechs fail in the gap between the two: the science leaders don't speak finance, the finance leaders don't speak data. As a physician-scientist who has led both, I translate across that divide — so strategy, evidence, and capital pull in the same direction.
I'm a physician-scientist and biotech operator who has spent 25 years where deep science meets capital — an MD and PhD in neuroscience, a Harvard Medical School post-doc, and a Wharton MBA in healthcare finance. That mix lets me speak the language of the lab, the clinic, the boardroom, and the cap table.
Most recently I was Senior Director of Corporate Development & LatAm Medical Affairs at Artiva Biotherapeutics — building the financial and forecast models behind operations and IPO planning, running corporate development and BD, and leading medical affairs, KOL engagement, and clinical operations across Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina. Earlier: Chief Medical Officer roles (Bupa Global; Hospital Mãe de Deus), founder & CEO of Medicinia — a pioneer of Brazilian digital health — and advisor to Novartis, Roche, Ionis, Bain, and the IFC.
I bring that full range to founders as a fractional executive — the judgment of a CMO, a CBO, and a strategist, on demand, amplified by AI.
If you're a founder doing more with fewer people, let's talk about where senior leadership would move the needle.
